Numerical simulations of capsule deformation in a combined shear flow and DC electric field

چکیده

In this work a numerical method for fully three dimensional simulations of capsules in the electrohydrodynamic regime is proposed. A quasi-steady dual time-stepping scheme allows iterative computation capsule's fluid velocity using multigrid lattice Boltzmann at each time step. The elasticity computed linear finite element and membrane's bending resistance from Helfrich energy. immersed interface (IIM) used to compute electric field arising due electrical properties interior fluid, exterior membrane. structure interaction facilitated through boundary (IBM), which coupled IIM least squares interpolation between control points Lagrangian nodes IBM. validated by comparing results analytical solutions previously published studies. then study deformation combined shear flow DC various membrane conductances, capacitances, conductivity ratios. For nonconducting membranes distribution forces capsule inclination angle result complex equilibrium dynamics not reported neutral capsules.
